Heart Pine is the actual heartwood of the tree. It is the darker amber colored portion, and is more resistant to decay and is a very stable wood. Our new heart pine has been carefully graded at the saw mill for 65% or better heart content. The flooring is dried and then milled to exacting specifications. New heart is also graded to ensure quality. It will contain approximately 25% #2 grade with up to 2” knots; 50% D grade and 25% C grade which will virtually have no knots(www.southernpine.com). With age, and exposure to light, the heartwood will deepen in color even more, giving your home a warm and welcome feeling.
